Always a Brave: Remembering Danny Dahlquist

It's been awhile.  Lots has happened since the last post, but I am not going to get into that stuff now.  Here is something that has been on my mind though...

ESPN did an outside the lines segment on the Bradley soccer team tradegy from last year.  I can not believe it has almost been a year since that horrible debacle.  The boys charged in his death have been released, but what they did will haunt them the rest of their lives I am sure.  Danny's memory lives on, and is an inspiration to many.

Picked up my cap and gown yesterday.  It actually makes it feel real...I am really going to graduate :)

"May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you . May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let His presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and everyone of us."

That made my day!

School's back in the swing of things.  It was a long first week of classes.  This semester will be a challenging one.  All I wanted to do the first week of class was go on a loooong run.  Running and working out is my stress reliever.  Playing soccer was my excape.  I need to figure something else out temporarily while my foot heals I guess.  I'm officially ready for school to be done though.  I'm almost there.  The finish line is in sight...something where often times through the years I never thought would be the case.  Sure the college life will be missed, but nursing school will finally be over.  An update on the boys involved with Danny's death.  Some good and bad news I guess.  The boys are not going to have to go through the process of a trial to determine their sentences.  They have been sentenced to 180 days in jail...half a year.  Compared to the possible 60 years they could have gotten through a trial process that really is a blessing.  They all still need prayers more than ever though.

2008.  I start my last semester of college up on Monday.  Right now, I'm not planning on continuing on with my schooling, but possibly I will eventually.  I'm still struggling with not knowing what I want to do with my life and graduating in 5 months.  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.  This verse has become my favorite bible verse, and it is somewhat of a new years resolution for me this year.  I usually don't do resolutions, but I know I need to work on trusting God more and not worrying so much.  Justin leaves tomorrow.  It's been wonderful having him home for the holidays.  He's been a real inspiration for me lately.  He went back to school to spend new years with some Bradley friends and to bring some furniture back.  While he was in Peoria he visited Danny's grave and left him flowers.  Danny's birthday was somewhere between Christmas and New Years.  As if the holidays were not hard enough not having Danny here, he also would have turned 20.  Justin is doing better though.  For those of you who read this can you please keep the Dahlquist family and friends in your prayers as well as the boys who were involved with his death and thier families.  Justin is extremely good friends with one of the soccer boys being convicted of Danny's death, and things are starting up with the attourneys and court in deciding what will happen to the 4 boys involved.  Please say an extra prayer for them all.  They're all wonderful people who made a horrible mistake which they will have to live with the rest of their lives.  They do not deserve prison for what happened, and I know the Dahlquist family does not want prison sentences.  These people are wonderful, and I can only hope that one day when I eventually have a family I can raise my children with as much strength, faith, and understanding as the Dahlquist family has shown to possess through everything that has happened.

One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes. In the long run, we shape our lives and we shape ourselves.  The process never ends until we die.  And, the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.
